Military Cultural Competency Training

May 2 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am

This is the Military Cultural Competency Training. In this training, Military Culture is introduced by recognition of the service branches, their relationship to each other as well as the subcultures found within active and inactive military and veteran populations. A focus on the family and community support will also include mental health aspects that may result as a part of detachment during deployments and possible effects of combat exposure. These mental health topics cover depression, anxiety, stress, PTSD, sexual trauma, the “sleeper effect” of homelessness, moral injury, and the importance of veteran suicide prevention measures.
While the training covers mental health challenges for this exclusive population, the training will also cover an overview of the network for resources and referrals to mental health, peer support, financial aid, volunteer opportunities, benefits for family, legal aid, justice-involved veterans, and many other local entities that assist in providing help to our Veterans and their families.
This training is considered the cornerstone of bridging an understanding between our service members and our community providers. It is essential knowledge of military life and prepares volunteers and service staff to facilitate appropriate and much needed help to our local patriots and builds a greater appreciation for the freedoms we exercise in our daily lives.
